G E N R E ....

what is a Genre?

Putting media texts such as film, television programs, print media, or music into categories is useful as a way of establishing some kind of control over an amorphous mass of information. Each genre follows its own kinds of conventions - language, characteristic signs and sign systems.

Types of genre

There are  Different type of Genre it all depend on what media text your looking at. for example in films wise we have; Horror,Comedy,Action and Adventure,Western,Thriller,Romance and Etc..
In music term we would  have the following : R&B, Pop, Gospel,Classical and Etc
In television wise we would have ; Drama,Documentary,Soap,Sports and etc.
the list of type of genres continue, just keep in mind that everything has a particular type of theme / genre to it.

Why is loved by everyone.
the reason why I made this statement is because without genre the media industry would not have been successful as it is today. thanks to genre it allow producers, authors etc everyone that works within the media department to organize them self so they can meet each genre criteria.criteria. Having genres means people can easily identify the type of movie, book, TV programs and music they are interested in. It also allow people with different age group to watch or purchase things that appeal to them.

Genre is very important  especially in films because it allows the director and producers to lay and create the film in the way it will suit its target audience. For example, Westerns always have cowboys, whether they are set in the present day or the 1840. Audiences have a set of expectations as to what a genre text will contain in terms of transportation, costume, character, setting, misen en scene, soundtrack, stars etc, and they look forward to seeing genre-specific examples of content when they experience the text.
the beauty about genre is that they have a specific age group that they apply to. In  some case they apply to everyone from PG ( parental & Guardian) to 18 or 15 its all depend on the genre and its target audience.
